REVISION: Spec broken down part 2

Candidates should be prepared to understand and discuss the processes of production,
distribution, marketing and exchange as they relate to contemporary media institutions, as well as the nature of audience consumption and the relationships between audiences and institutions. In addition, candidates should be familiar with:


Below are some revision prompts to do with exchange/consumption




Release
How the game is consumed by the audience including the game’s release and beyond.
Release: Was the release limited or worldwide? Was there any exclusivity?
Consumption:

How was the game consumed in the UK?
Find sales figures online for the games we have looked at
How was the game received critically? Read a couple of reviews of the game including a look at the
Metacritic website that pulls together reviews from many different websites
GTA 5’s online trailer hype machine!!

Exchange patterns – UGC and other Web 2.0 activity
Facebook groups?
Rockstar has a very active Facebook group/page
Rockstar has games to download for free as well as hundreds of stylish wallpaper backgrounds for phone and PC – not to mention RockstarWarehouse.com – Official merchanise – iconic logo merchandise

Machinina video sites – eg. GTA YouTubers and Minecraft livestreamers
Weekly Minecraft podcasts!
Memes and parodies of the games on the internet
Fan sites? Fan art?

Mods and UGC – GTA community inspired to reverse-engineer the game – led to
